By Rob from the Shack

Forager GameForager is a 2D open world, adventure and exploration game where players are able to buy lands to expand and explore a vast world filled with secrets, puzzles, friendly characters and foes. Inspired by The Legend of Zelda and more modern titles such as Terraria, Stardew Valley & Minecraft, Forager is available across Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Microsoft Windows, Macintosh operating systems and Linux.

The new annual competition which celebrates the greatest games made using GameMaker, attracted over 300 entries from over 30 countries. The five-game shortlist featuring ForagerLevelheadOvercrowdKatana Zero & Nova Drift was decided by the judging panel which included YoYo Games GM Stuart Poole and CTO Russell Kay. The YoYo Games community then got to vote for their favourite game, with Forager receiving the majority of the 4,000+ votes cast.

Each of the finalists will receive a GMS2 Ultimate Licence, while Forager will also receive a winners logo, promotion across the YoYo Games website, community and social media channels as well as getting to lift the very first Game Maker 2020: Best Game trophy.

Mariano Cavallero of HopFrog, said:

“The Forager team and I feel very excited about this award. It’s been a long journey, but incredibly fun the whole way through. I have personally always loved the speed of development that GameMaker Studio 2 provides and can’t wait to make some more games using the new engine features”

Stuart Poole, General Manager, YoYo Games, added:

“Making beautiful games easily has been our mantra for the last eighteen months, and our latest beta release of GameMaker, due to go stable this month, continues to blend powerful functionality with accessibility. I would like to pay tribute to all the finalists, as they have all shown in their own way what can technically be achieved with GameMaker.”
