Hungry Horrors Launches into Steam Early Access This January
UK indie developer Clumsy Bear Studio has confirmed that its card-based folklore adventure Hungry Horrors will enter Steam Early Access on 19 January 2026.
Inspired by British and Irish myth, Hungry Horrors takes a very different approach to monster encounters. There is no combat at all. Instead, every card played represents a meal served, with players tasked with keeping terrifying folkloric creatures fed before their hunger turns fatal.
A Folklore-Fuelled Card Adventure
In Hungry Horrors, players step into the role of a spoilt princess forced into action when a ravenous curse spreads across her kingdom and a dragon awakens at its centre. Guided by a sharp-tongued, sarcastic cat, she must cook traditional regional dishes to satisfy the Horrors drawn from legend.

Each encounter revolves around managing hunger levels, flavour cravings, and taste chains. Dishes can be upgraded with seasonings, while cookware, spices, potions, and artefacts dramatically alter how each run plays out. Progression is handled through the Book of Taliesin, unlocking new mechanics and strengthening future attempts.
Every Horror, NPC, and artefact is rooted in authentic regional folklore, from well-known figures to more obscure local tales. Likewise, every dish in the game is based on real traditional recipes, many of which can still be found in pubs across Britain and Ireland today.
Early Access Content at Launch
When Hungry Horrors enters Early Access, players can expect a substantial amount of content, including:
