No Players Online Returns to Steam After False DMCA Takedown
Beeswax Games has announced that No Players Online is finally back on Steam after an unexpected and unfounded DMCA claim forced the game offline for nearly three weeks. The claim alleged co authorship and caused the horror FPS to be removed during its most important post launch window.
For a game that centers around exploring an abandoned multiplayer server haunted by something that refuses to stay buried, its disappearance from Steam felt strangely on theme. For the developers, however, the situation was anything but atmospheric. The takedown halted sales, cut momentum, and inflicted significant financial damage.
In a statement shared by the studio, creative director Adam Pype expressed disbelief that years of work could be jeopardized by a simple form submission. The team urged supporters to leave a review on Steam and spread awareness to help recover what was lost.
A Modern Evolution of a Cult Classic
Originally a free browser game released in 2019, No Players Online became an instant cult hit for its eerie meta storytelling and exploration of a broken FPS server. The commercial remake expands the concept into a full length mystery that blends puzzle solving, exploration, desktop simulation, and ARG elements.

Players investigate an old 90s era computer environment, digging through folders, tools, and corrupted files to uncover a narrative buried inside and around the game world. Every discovery leads deeper into the system and closer to the truth behind who built the game, why it was abandoned, and what still lingers in its digital ruins.
Key Features
- Soul Fusion Mechanic: Merge two games into a hybrid creation using the Soul Transfer tool, with unpredictable effects
- Clue Driven Narrative: Secrets hidden in maps, files, forum posts, and nested games
- Fully simulated desktop: Explore a 90s computer environment with tools, utilities, and even Minesweeper
- ARG elements: Mysteries extend beyond the boundaries of the game
No Players Online is once again available on Steam.
