Alchemist: Journey of the Soul

πŸ§ͺ Indie Dev Interview: OnSkull Games Talks Alchemist: Journey of the Soul

By Rob from the Shack

At Rob’s Game Shack I love diving into the worlds indie devs are building, especially when those worlds are full of puzzles, magic, and the kind of creativity you do not often see in the AAA machine. This time I sat down with OnSkull Games, the team behind the upcoming Alchemist: Journey of the Soul.

Grab your potions and puzzle-solving brain because this one is shaping up to be something special.

⚑ Quickfire Round

First console/system you ever owned?
A PC with a massive belly that could barely fit on the desk. Around 2010 me and my sister used to fire up MAME32 games on it.

Favorite boss fight of all time?
I am more of a cozy gamer, but recently I really enjoyed Seismic Talus from Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.

Go-to snack during crunch?
Vinegar chips. Dangerous, but worth it.

Pizza topping that must exist in the post-apocalypse?
Mini chicken nuggets. Why not? (actually can’t disagree – Rob)

One game you wish you could play again for the first time?
A Little to the Left. I loved solving those puzzles and would love to rediscover them fresh one day.

πŸ•ΉοΈ The Game Pitch

One-liner pitch for Alchemist: Journey of the Soul:
If you love puzzles and magic this game is for you.

Where did the idea come from?
Originally it began as a sequel to Escape First Alchemist. But as the graphics style evolved and the story grew, it became clear this was its own thing. The DNA of the older game is still in there, but Alchemist stands on its own.

Biggest headache mechanic?
The shrinking potion. Changing size is one of those mechanics that loves to break everything. The team is still working on making it behave.

πŸ‘Ύ Behind the Scenes

Biggest β€œaha!” moment so far?
Honestly, it will be when the whole game is complete. Every working puzzle feels like a win, but the team is chasing that final moment when the whole adventure comes together.

What part of the game makes you proud?
As community manager, I don’t code or create art directly, but I see the team pour so much into every asset, puzzle, and line of code. Watching those small pieces transform into a playable world with a proper story is something I deeply admire.

Secret cheat code idea?
The ability to create living clones of yourself. Terrifying, but useful.

Funniest bug?
Still waiting for one that tops the list.

πŸ’¬ Community Corner

What should players know before diving in?
Get ready to explore and be patient with the puzzles. If you are into puzzles, this will be a fun ride.

How can the community support you?
Wishlist on Steam, join the Discord, or follow OnSkull on TikTok, Instagram, X, and YouTube. Being the first to know about discounts and events really helps spread the word.

One feeling players should take away?
Satisfaction. The goal is to make players feel accomplished and have fun, especially if they play together with friends.

πŸš€ Looking Ahead

Any plans for updates, DLC, or sequels?
Too early to say, but if players enjoy Alchemist, the team will definitely consider it for the future.

Dream collab?
Working with content creators and streamers. Watching people enjoy your game live is the best feeling.

What is next for OnSkull after Alchemist?
Right now the focus is entirely on launch. After that… who knows. Stay tuned.
