Hungry Horrors Serves Up a Fresh Demo for Steam Next Fest
The culinary roguelite Hungry Horrors is back on the menu this month as Clumsy Bear Studio launches a brand-new demo for Steam Next Fest (October 13–20).
This isn’t just a reheat of last year’s serving. Built on community feedback, the new demo adds a rich helping of strategic depth with features like collectible cookware, seasoning mechanics, and upgradeable dishes, turning every run into a fresh new recipe for survival.
In Hungry Horrors, you play as a lost princess trapped in the folklore of the British Isles, tasked with feeding monsters before they devour you. Each dish you serve draws from authentic traditional recipes like Bara Brith and Cranachan, and every monster, like Jenny Greenteeth or the Dullahan, has its own culinary cravings to uncover.
The game swaps swords and spells for saucepans and spice racks, with deckbuilding taking center stage. Instead of battling foes, you’re constructing the perfect meal plan using dishes, herbs, and utensils to keep each Horror satisfied just long enough to escape their hunger.
The updated demo introduces new systems such as:
- Cookware: Collect spatulas, goblets, and tygs to boost your kitchen’s power.
- Seasoning: Enhance meals with honey, gravy, or horseradish.
- Book of Taliesin: Purchase upgrades for future runs.
- The Brahan Seer & Adder Stone: Reveal monsters’ favorite dishes.
- Redesigned Nook: Inspired by real-world British folklore.
Clumsy Bear Studio, an indie duo from the UK, has also teased an upcoming Kickstarter campaign to help bring the game’s full version to life. Players can already follow the pre-launch page to register their interest.
