The Infection Spreads – Winnie’s Hole Demo Bursts into Steam Next Fest
The viral roguelite Winnie’s Hole from Melbourne-based studio Twice Different is joining Steam Next Fest (13–20 October) with an expanded, reworked demo that’s mutating faster than ever.
Players step into the microscopic world inside Winnie’s body, spreading a virus through his cells and unlocking strange new powers as they go. This is a roguelite that takes “infectious gameplay” literally, combining tetromino-style exploration with combo-driven combat.

The Demo Evolves
The updated demo introduces a range of community-inspired improvements. Players can now experiment with new Actions and Perks like Spike, Counter, and Lock, as well as new room shapes, event types, and randomised pickups. Mutation rewards are now harvested from defeated enemies, and virus strains have been rebalanced to focus on quality over quantity.
Spread tokens also bring new strategic layers, letting players capture extra tiles and chain unpredictable actions. Add in new visual effects, UI improvements, and first-time controller support, and the demo feels more alive than ever.
Twice Different says the team is constantly iterating on the build based on player feedback. That’s fitting for a game about evolution.

A Viral Idea
Winnie’s Hole turns the traditional roguelite formula inside out, literally. Instead of traversing dungeons or maps, you spread across organic terrain, growing your deck of abilities from within. It’s dark, weird, and oddly wholesome, blending twisted science with storybook charm.
Fans of Ring of Pain will find the same clever design DNA here, now in a setting that feels both unsettling and playful.
Try the Demo During Steam Next Fest
Players can dive into Winnie’s Hole during Steam Next Fest between October 13–20, wishlist the full game on Steam, and join the official community for feedback and updates.
