Cheat Your Way Out of Hell in The Devil’s Due as the First Public Demo Drops on Steam

By Rob from the Shack

Hell just got a little noisier. Norwegian studio Games People Play has released the first public demo for The Devil’s Due, a cheating heavy poker roguelite where bluffing, sabotaging, and straight up rule breaking are essential to survival. The studio also premiered a brand new gameplay video during the OTK Games Expo, giving players their best look yet at the game’s chaotic card duels.

The demo lets players explore the first two layers of Hell and test a growing arsenal of dirty tricks. You can pull hidden cards into your hand, crank up card values, sabotage enemy plays, and manipulate the battlefield as long as you do not raise too much suspicion. Push your luck too far and the demonic opponents will unleash brutal counterattacks.

At its core, The Devil’s Due mixes classic poker mechanics with roguelite progression. Strong poker hands deal more damage, while card values provide defense. Every encounter becomes a strategic tug of war between building the perfect hand, cheating without being caught, and deciding when to play it safe.

Outside of duels, players can wander through shops to scam, shrines to corrupt, and a variety of deceptively “fair” minigames. Each offers chances to grab new trinkets, cheats, and upgrades that persist between runs. According to designer Jack Kristoffersen, the goal was to create a roguelite that still feels like poker, only with a suitcase full of forbidden tricks.

The game’s Monty Python inspired animation style and tactile UI give the demonic setting a playful twist, making every sleight of hand feel mischievous and rewarding. With seven layers of Hell to escape and countless ways to manipulate the rules, The Devil’s Due looks set to appeal to fans of deckbuilders, roguelites, and anyone who enjoys bending the rules until they snap.

Players can try the demo right now on Steam.
