Apocalypter

Apocalypter is a survival game set in a post-apocalyptic open world. The world is procedurally generated and has no fixed limit, and it includes a day and night cycle. Players travel by car and must fight, help or trade with others to stay alive. A central goal is to eliminate the warlords and attach their trophies to the player’s vehicle. Locations to find include abandoned buildings, wrecks, caves, and faction camps and bases. Navigation relies on a compass and landmarks, and roads may lead nowhere.

Car customisation is a core feature. Any car part can be installed on any car, including suspension, engines and radiators, as well as cosmetic parts such as steering wheels, gear levers and seats. A part adjuster tool allows engines, exhausts and radiators to be moved and rotated, and roof racks, crates and boxes can be added for extra storage. Combat involves a range of melee and ranged weapons, with guns that vary in stats and calibre. Enemies use similar weapons and may drop ammunition, weapons or healing items. Players can equip body armour and use bandages or first aid kits, and the game includes several enemy types, mutants and boss fights.

Survival systems include eating bugs, dog food and mystery meats, butchering animals and mutants, and cooking their meat. Vehicles can serve as mobile bases through portable maggot farms, dew collectors, and weed and tobacco plants. Trading uses rusted nuts as currency, and merchants buy and sell randomised items. Character upgrades include body armour, a backpack, a flashlight and binoculars. The game offers partial controller support for driving only, as well as steering wheel support. A demo is available, but it is an outdated version with much less content, featuring one car, one boss and one save slot. The game has received more than 500 reviews on Steam.
