BURNED HORIZONS
Burned Horizons is a turn-based tactical sandbox game in which the player takes on the role of an Operational Lead for a private military company operating in Ukraine in 2002. The game is built around persistent operator health, realistic ballistics and unscripted squad operations across open sectors, with combat handled through action points, suppression, overwatch and interrupt mechanics.
Wounds are modelled on physical trauma rather than a depleting health bar, with injuries to specific body parts affecting movement or weapon handling. Operators can accumulate psychological effects known as SCARs from combat experiences, which may sharpen, impair or otherwise alter their behaviour over time. Squad dynamics are governed by systems tracking company standing (UCD), individual trust (S-Grade) and leadership capacity (Cohesion), which influence how operators respond under fire. Gear is fully customisable, with armour, rigs and weapon attachments affecting weight, protection and handling, and operator skills develop through field experience rather than point-based progression or fixed class restrictions.
The game takes place within Regional Deployment Commands, persistent theatres of operation where outcomes affect front lines and future missions. Standard Operating Procedures allow players to adjust difficulty, mechanical friction and campaign persistence. Additional features include CASEVAC and reinforcement support, multiple camera perspectives, and modding support. The game is planned for Early Access release in Q3/Q4 2026, with further systems such as logistics, vehicles, base building and expanded AI planned for development ahead of a full 1.0 release.
