Cassette Beasts is back with a whole new mystery in Nodnol, London's stranger cousin, and 57,000+ monster fusions to mess about with.

Cassette Beasts 2002 drops you into a foggy corner of London that turns out to be a doorway into Nodnol, a beast-filled world sitting just out of sight of our own. There’s a proper mystery running through it too, centred on a shady occultist called Westerley who’s got plans for both worlds. You can jump in fresh or bring your character over from the first game, so either way you’re covered.

The core of it is still recording beasts on cassette tapes and playing them back to become them in battle, but the fusion system is the real standout. Any two beasts can combine into one of over 57,000 fully animated fusion forms, and there’s alchemy to throw buffs, debuffs and even elemental swaps into the mix mid fight.

Beyond the battling there’s a genuinely lovely cast of twelve companions to get to know, recruit and romance, each with their own stories and perks that make your fusions stronger the closer you get. Add in online multiplayer for trading tapes and tackling story battles together, plus rogue beasts that actually learn from how you fight and come back smarter, and you’ve got a monster collecting game with a lot going on under the hood.
