DR Dominoes
DR Dominoes is a digital version of dominoes as played in the Caribbean, particularly the Dominican Republic. Tiles are rendered in 3D with physically weighted movement, lighting and sound, and the table is designed to be read at a glance without navigating through menus. Games use the double-six set of 28 tiles, with four players split into two teams. There is no boneyard and no drawing: each player receives seven tiles and must either play or pass. The full vocabulary of the game is included, covering leads, passes, blocked games and capicúas. Matches can be set to 100, 120, 150 or 200 points, and the chain of tiles turns at the edge of the table as it would in a physical game.
Communication is a central part of the design. Proximity voice chat positions each player’s voice according to where they are seated at the table, so a partner sitting opposite sounds different from an opponent on the left. Text chat is available for players who prefer not to use a microphone. Table sounds include the slap of tiles on wood and background chatter from other players.
The game can be played offline against AI opponents that track tiles, remember which plays a player passed on and attempt to block the table. Online options include private rooms joined via a shared code, a browser for public rooms that are still filling, and a reconnect feature that holds a player’s seat if their connection drops. A profile records statistics such as wins, blocks and win rate. On Steam, friends can be invited through the overlay and the friends list is visible in the lobby. Native builds are available for Windows, macOS and Linux.
