False Hero

False Hero is set in a realm ruled by the gods of life, where Death has begun to spread. The player takes the role of a husk of a former scholar who, according to prophecy, will find a legendary mask and slay this eldritch evil. The story begins in the mountaintop kingdom of Wisdom, and the player decides whether to fight for the gods and fulfil the prophecy or to become an apostle of Death.

Combat is fast-paced and built around evading enemy attacks and chaining learned combat arts into combos. The mask allows the player to copy the combat skills of enemies they kill, with each enemy type providing a distinct attack, building towards an arsenal of dozens of combat arts. Players can also channel the powers of the gods, which are used both in combat and to solve puzzles. Boss fights include giant arachnoids, mechanical beasts, dragons and angelic beings, each with its own move set.

The game features large, interconnected worlds including swamps, ruins and ancient cities, each with its own enemies and secrets. Exploring these areas reveals the cause of Death’s spread. The player ultimately decides the fate of the corrupted lands, either rescuing the gods of Life or destroying the world.
