Fidget Toy Engine
Fidget Toy Engine is a desktop application that places a set of interactive toys in a small transparent window on the user’s screen. The window can be positioned anywhere on the desktop, kept above other applications, minimised to the system tray, or set to launch automatically when the computer starts. It is intended to be used alongside other activities such as work, study or chat.
The toys include a fidget spinner, a shuriken, slime that can be squished, a mini keyboard with tappable keys, dice, a slingshot, a roulette wheel with a ball, and a bouncing DVD logo, among others. Each toy moves or responds in its own way. Users can save favourites or use a Random option to pick a toy for them. The application can be resized, and volume and brightness can be adjusted. Selected toys can be recoloured with custom colours and metallic finishes. Stereo sound shifts according to where the window is placed on the desktop. The developer states that more toys are planned for future updates.
Interface options include a dark or light theme, enlarged interface text, and adjustable frame rate, anti-aliasing and shadow quality. The interface is available in ten languages. The game includes Steam achievements and uses Steam Cloud to synchronise supported preferences. There is no fixed structure or objective, and sessions can be as brief or as long as the user chooses. The game is now released and has received two user reviews on Steam.
