FlashBoss – Greek Roots

FlashBoss – Greek Roots is a flashcard-based learning tool focused on English vocabulary derived from Greek roots. It contains 1,000 cards, each presenting a single English word traced back to its Greek root, with related words grouped into families so that words sharing a root are studied together. The pack also includes a toolkit of Greek prefixes and endings, such as anti-, hyper-, syn-, dia-, meta-, para-, -ology, -itis, -graphy, and -phobia, which combine with roots to form many English words.

Each card includes etymological information showing the Greek root in its original script, a transliteration, and a breakdown of how the word’s parts combine to form its meaning. Cards also include example sentences showing the word in context, along with synonyms and, where relevant, antonyms. Root families are organised across five tiers, progressing from common everyday words to specialised vocabulary used in science and medicine.

The program uses a tiered progression system described as boss-fight graduation, in which a word family is not considered complete until its most difficult members have been learned. Text-to-speech functionality is available for every word and example sentence.
