Hack ’95

Hack ’95 is a game that combines card game mechanics with a conspiracy story set during the golden age of computing. The setting is Navigate ’95, a fictional 90s style operating system made by the company Axis Megasystems. The story moves from underground hacker chat rooms to the heart of government, and includes twists, 1990s dance music and animated GIFs.

The player’s best friend and elite hacker, mega_hurtz, is missing and presumed dead. The Federal Bureau of Cyber Security and Axis Megasystems are said to be responsible. To prove it, the player must hack across a network called House of Cards, where they uncover something larger than they expected.

The game is presented through apps within Navigate ’95. NetChatty v1.3 is a chat program where the player talks to a range of characters from the internet’s underside while offering hacking services and looking for justice. Assistant Bert is the system’s virtual mascot, who is intended to help with everyday tasks but can be used to carry out cyber crime. Hacker FM is an internet radio station with a DJ who broadcasts electronic music.
