Hanzi Bird Soundtrack
The Hanzi Bird Original Soundtrack is a downloadable album containing five Chinese-inspired pieces composed for Hanzi Bird. The tracks come from the game’s Hanzi Nonogram and Crossword modes, Hanzi Shooter and Hanzi Mahjong, along with one piece written for a bird-racing concept that was never included in the finished game. The full collection runs for approximately twelve minutes.
Moonlit Courtyard is the music for Hanzi Nonogram and Hanzi Crossword, combining guzheng, bamboo flute, erhu and pipa at a slow pace with pentatonic phrasing and natural reverb. Hanzi Shooter has two pieces: Dragon’s Fury, a pipa and drum track written for boss encounters with dense bullet patterns and phase changes, and Ink-Dyed Waning Moon, which covers the regular stages using traditional Chinese instruments in a more restrained style. Silk and Bamboo accompanies Hanzi Mahjong and features guzheng arpeggios, bamboo flute, brushed percussion and acoustic bass.
Song of the Racing Birds was composed for the unused bird-racing idea and has an upbeat melody arranged so that it loops back to its opening without a noticeable break. The album is described by the developer as covering the different musical styles found across Hanzi Bird while also documenting part of its development history, and the tracks are intended to be listenable outside the game as well.
