Museum Disarter
Museum DisARTer is a first-person organisation and deduction game set in a museum whose paintings have been stolen and then returned. Playing as a member of staff on an ordinary Monday, the player is asked to put every artwork back where it belongs before going on holiday. The museum is divided into galleries, and as each collection is completed the building gradually returns to its original state.
The core loop involves reading a short description, examining the paintings on hand and deducing which artwork the description refers to before placing it in the correct collection. The descriptions are deliberately casual rather than academic and avoid discussion of composition, symbolism or technique, while containing enough historical detail to identify the work. Some clues are direct and others require more interpretation. Once a painting has been placed, more conventional information about it becomes available for players who want it. There are no time limits, and the developer states the game is not incremental: no tools are unlocked that allow several paintings to be placed at once, and there is nothing to optimise.
The game features hundreds of paintings across numerous collections. According to the developer, all artworks used are in the public domain, no AI was used in making the game, and every description was written by hand in Spanish and English, the two languages the developer speaks.
