Pompeii: The Legacy
Pompeii: The Legacy is set twenty years after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Players take on the role of the head of a Roman family tasked with rebuilding Pompeii, managing the needs of patricians, plebeians and slaves while constructing housing, temples, arenas, markets and aqueduct infrastructure across decades of gameplay.
The game combines city-building with political and economic strategy. Players shape laws, negotiate trade rights, and form alliances through marriage or contract, while seeking favour with emperors and rivals to expand their family’s influence beyond Pompeii. Trade routes can be established across the Empire, with markets requiring ongoing monitoring to maintain a stable economy.
Progression is supported by Family Bonuses, Research and Development, and Imperial Privileges, with two research branches covering Technology and Philosophy. Beyond political rivalries, the city faces hazards such as earthquakes, fires, famine, plagues and sabotage, which can affect the family’s fortunes over generations. The game was co-financed by the Croatian Audiovisual Centre.
