Remain At Your Desk
Remain At Your Desk casts the player in two roles at once: an office worker completing routine tasks to earn a paycheck, and a hacker who uses after-hours access to steal data from the same company’s network. The game opens with an intake form where players choose an origin story, such as a long-serving employee, a planted infiltrator, or an indebted worker, each of which alters starting conditions, playstyle, and how the in-game AI, CONDUIT, interacts with the player.
Hacking activity raises suspicion, which can lead to audits and interrogations. Failing to maintain a consistent story results in a reset to the lowest rank. The game runs on two separate economies: Credits earned from office work, used for upgrades, automation, and time, and Intel gained from hacking, which is rarer and riskier to obtain but feeds a separate upgrade tree that improves future hacks. Reaching higher ranks unlocks a Black Market where Intel can be spent on permanent upgrades that persist through resets.
Players can adopt Personas, such as a janitor, IT admin, or consultant, to hack under a false identity, each with unique bonuses that degrade with overuse. Suspicion can be managed through actions like filing fake reports, wiping logs, or bribing witnesses. Repeated hacks on the same target build a dossier that grants permanent leverage, revealing information such as office relationships, camera blind spots, or executive secrets. Progression is tied to a prestige system: getting promoted resets the game with stronger multipliers and retained personas, while getting caught resets progress entirely.
