REPLACED

REPLACED is a narrative action adventure set in Phoenix-City, a city in an alternate 1980s America reshaped by nuclear disaster. The player takes the role of R.E.A.C.H., an artificial intelligence placed inside a human body by the Phoenix Corporation. The setting is one of corruption, where body parts are traded like currency. The story follows R.E.A.C.H. as it confronts the Corporation and the truth about its own creation, and meets the Disposals, the outcasts of the city. The game has passed 10,000 reviews on Steam.

Gameplay combines exploration, platforming and combat. Players move through districts that include decaying suburbs, neon-lit streets, underground complexes, secret laboratories and slums. Combat uses both melee strikes and ranged gunplay, with attacks, counters and dodges presented through animated sequences. Along the way, players meet a cast of morally complex characters and uncover details of the regime that controls the city.

The game uses a 2.5D visual style that pairs pixel art with depth-of-field, lighting and cinematic effects. It is accompanied by an original synth-driven soundtrack. Its themes include what it means to be human and the human cost of the Corporation’s actions.
