Shelf Happens
Shelf Happens puts the player in the role of a newly hired clerk at a retro record store where the shelves are in disarray and the store is about to open. The task is to pick up each scattered vinyl, read its title, work out which genre it belongs to and place it in the matching crate. There are no labels or hints on the sleeves, so identification relies on the player’s interpretation of the album’s title and artwork.
The game features hundreds of original albums along with their sequels, with dedicated crates for genres including Rock, Jazz, Punk, Pop, Soul, Metal and Funk among others. A correct placement causes the shelf to glow green, while an incorrect one flashes red. Some albums are designed to be straightforward to categorise, while others are intended to be ambiguous or misleading. Players are encouraged to plan a route through the aisles, prioritise which records to collect and reunite numbered volumes from the same band in a single crate. Filling a crate completely locks in that progress.
Shelf Happens can be played solo or in local or online co-op for two to four players, where teammates can divide aisles, call out genres and pass records between one another. Filing crates earns XP, which unlocks abilities such as carrying more records at once, identifying genres more quickly and moving faster between aisles.
