Sky Scaffold
Sky Scaffold is a single-player science fiction sandbox developed by Jordan “Asleepius” Haus, who handles the art, code, writing and design alone. It is built in Godot with pixel art and an industrial aesthetic, and is set in the Fourcade Expanse, a hostile frontier with finite resources. Players begin on a barren planet and construct an industrial tower upwards, combining incremental game mechanics with colony management, resource logistics and faction diplomacy on a single screen. Unlike many roguelites, failure does not wipe progress: faction reputation and Ark Point structural upgrades carry over between runs.
The economy is based on production chains running from raw minerals to advanced weaponry, with extractors and factories consuming resources rather than simply storing them. Ammunition comes in three families, each with five tiers: energy (Battery through to Singularity), kinetic (9mm through to Rail Slug) and explosive (Grenade through to Nuke Shell). Lower tiers supply basic turrets while the top tiers power orbital weapons, so advanced factories are needed before deep-space combat. Building higher unlocks further manufacturing tiers but also makes the tower a larger target, requiring a balance between output and defensive placement. Once the tower reaches orbit, players manage the Space Hub, a grid-based station that expands through levels, each requiring resource investment and unlocking new modules.
Factions fall into four types (Government, Criminal, Scholarly and Militant) and include the HIGI Loyalists, Chorus Hegemony and Sector Authority. Reputation ranges from -100 (Hostile) to +100 (Allied); angering a faction can lead its enemies to invade, while trusted factions will defend the colony. Interactions take place through an in-game phone app, with characters driven by generated skills rather than scripted dialogue trees. A 10×10 system map contains safe zones, resource planets and enemy bases with boss waves, which can be swept by fleets of up to five ships using card-based auto-battler combat, while automated turrets defend the base against invasion waves. There is no limit on expansion. Lore is hidden in rare items and documents without help text. The game has no microtransactions, loot boxes, paywalls, ads, subscriptions or premium currency, and the developer states there are no plans for paid DLC.
