The Event

The Event is a first-person psychological horror game in which the player wakes up in an asylum with no memory of who they are or how they arrived. The story is uncovered by gathering clues, notes and testimonies scattered around the building, with the aim of working out what happened both to the protagonist and to the other people present on the day of the titular event. Nothing is explained directly, so the narrative is reconstructed entirely through exploration.

The protagonist has a defined personality and their thoughts can be consulted by interacting with and finding items in the asylum, which the developer positions as an aid to solving the story. There are no weapons available at any point; when threatened by the game’s antagonists, the player’s only options are to run or hide. The developer describes encounters and situations within the asylum as unpredictable, with the player intended to be caught off guard.

The game places emphasis on its graphics and sound design as the means of building a detailed and frightening environment. It carries a content warning for scenes of violence, gore and disturbing environments. The Event has now been released on Steam and holds a Positive user review rating.
