Tlatoani: Aztec Cities

Tlatoani: Aztec Cities is a city-building simulation game set in the Aztec Civilization. Players guide the growth of a settlement from a single city into a network of city-states and eventually an empire, taking on the role of a ruler working towards the status of Tlatoani, or emperor.

The game simulates individual citizens, each with their own skills, needs, duties, faith and daily routines. Players gather and produce a range of goods and resources to sustain their population, while managing the city’s treasury, services, military, festivals and religious practices. City layouts are built around the Aztec tradition of symmetry, requiring aligned and balanced construction of buildings and roads.

Beyond individual cities, the game includes a broader Mesoamerican setting where players can engage in diplomacy, trade, alliances and conquest with other city-states. It features an extensive campaign mode as well as scenario and sandbox options. The game incorporates Aztec gods, festivals, the calendar system and traditions such as human sacrifice, along with Nahuatl vocabulary, hand-drawn art and music depicting the Mesoamerican world.
