Uncanny Valley: Checkpoint
Uncanny Valley: Checkpoint places players in charge of a Soviet border checkpoint following a nuclear meltdown that has released a viral mutagen. The player’s role is to inspect the papers and physical condition of townspeople attempting to pass through, deciding whether to let them into town, place them in quarantine, or eliminate them. Each decision affects the fate of the town and the player’s own survival.
Gameplay centres on examining identification, medical forms, and permits for inconsistencies or forgeries, alongside observing physical signs of infection such as tumours, rotting flesh, or behavioural anomalies suggesting a person has turned. Players must survive 30 days and nights, defending the checkpoint from feral mutants while managing a limited salary used to purchase supplies, tools, and upgrades for weapons and booth defences.
The game includes a co-operative mode allowing two players to split tasks, such as one analysing documents while the other checks for physical symptoms. Co-op play also includes non-essential activities like drinking and smoking between decisions. Death is not permanent, as a replacement worker is called in if a player character dies.
