UpDown DX
UpDown DX is an arcade game built around a single mechanic: flipping gravity. It is a rebuilt and expanded version of the original UpDown, and contains 27 handcrafted levels that are played under different rules depending on the selected game mode. Progression is designed around reflexes, precision and timing, with difficulty increasing as the player advances.
Six game modes are included. Classic Mode asks the player to reach the end of each level. Campaign Mode requires every Orb in a level to be collected before it can be completed, which changes the route and sends the player into areas that can be skipped in Classic. Puzzle Mode restricts the number of moves available, so each level must be completed by finding an efficient path rather than relying on reflexes alone. Three further modes can be unlocked: Time Attack, in which all 27 levels are completed in one timed run with speed boosts placed along the way; Mirror Mode, which presents the existing levels flipped; and 9999 Mode, which replaces the standard levels with procedurally generated challenges that differ on each run.
Compared with the original UpDown, the DX version adds new music, new menus and interfaces, revised level design, additional game modes and unlockable visual themes based on various retro styles. The developer also lists general changes to gameplay, balance and presentation. Controls are described as simple, with the emphasis placed on mastering timing across the different modes.
