Wardstone is a tower defence game in which players place towers along enemy routes, command a hero and cast spells to hold back waves across a 21-level campaign.

Wardstone is a tower defence game set in a fantasy realm under attack by a dark army. Players position towers along winding roads to stop successive waves of enemies before they reach the final stronghold. The campaign consists of 21 hand-crafted levels spread across four biomes: green fields, harvest farmland, a drowned mire and a haunted graveyard. Boss encounters include the Drowned King and the Mire Colossus, among other hand-drawn adversaries.

There are six tower families to choose from: archers, barracks, mages, artillery, gold-producing mines and control towers that apply warding effects. Each family has three tiers and four branching specialisations. Alongside towers, players lead a hero with a signature ability who can be developed over the course of the campaign, and can cast battle spells including Meteor, Firestorm, Frost Nova, Reinforcements and Powder Barrels. The game features a combo system in which control effects such as freezing or conductivity can be exploited in sequence, building towards a screen-wide Resonance Burst.

The enemy roster comprises 55 distinct foes with different counters, covering armoured units, magic-resistant units, swarms, healers and ward-breakers. Towers can be assigned target priorities and gain veteran status, and the in-game economy is designed around aggressive play. Optional Ward Sigils and Blight modifiers alter individual battles in exchange for greater rewards, and Trials, Boss Rush and Endless modes are available after the campaign is completed. The game is localised in 14 languages.
