Backseat

Backseat casts the player as a driver whose wife has been kidnapped. To get her back, the player must follow instructions from a party called BK26, which involves collecting strangers at night and learning what they know. The passengers include killers, thieves, fraudsters and unstable individuals, and the player must avoid giving them a reason to attack.

The game centres on questioning passengers. A logbook is used to profile each one, and the player chooses what to ask while gathering clues without pushing a dangerous person too far. A computer in the vehicle lets the player search databases and the deep web for information, which may include how to defuse a bomb fixed under the car. Each ride has its own missions, such as delivering passengers and sending notes, which lead toward the wife’s whereabouts.

Mistakes can be fatal, whether inside the taxi or outside it. The player can choose to obey BK26 or look for another way out, deciding how much risk to accept. On Steam, the game’s user review rating has changed from Mostly Positive to Mixed.
