Boundless AI Fantasy is an indie RPG that pairs AI-narrated roleplaying with turn-based tactical combat on an isometric grid. Its language models run locally on the player's own PC.

Boundless AI Fantasy is an indie RPG that combines roleplaying driven by language models with turn-based tactical combat. Players build their own campaigns, characters, locations and stories in a built-in editor, and the game’s AI then narrates the story and develops it as the player progresses. The material written in the editor, including locations, characters and backstories, is passed to the AI as context for its narration.

Combat can be started at any point when the AI is idle by pressing the Start Combat button. The view then changes to an isometric grid battlefield based on the current location and the characters present. Players move characters, make use of range and use skills. Characters gain experience points and level up through combat victories and completing quests. The editor allows campaigns to be created from scratch, with locations, world descriptions and characters that have stats, background descriptions and skills.

The AI models run locally on the player’s machine, so the game needs no cloud service, subscription, account or API key, and no data leaves the PC. Two open-source models, Google Gemma 4 in e2b and e4b versions, are included with the game. Players can also configure it to use their own model, provided it is in a format supported by HuggingFace Transformers or by GGUF with llama.cpp. The game is a personal project made entirely by a single developer.
