An open world driving and racing simulator set in Texas, made by two indie developers, with detailed car building, engine tuning, drag and oval racing, and peer-to-peer multiplayer.

Breakout Garage is an open world driving and racing simulator set in Texas, USA, developed by a two-person indie team. Players build and modify cars using a range of part combinations, adjusting each vehicle to suit a preferred driving style or type of event, including street drag racing, official drag racing and oval racing. The game uses simulation physics with optional driving aids such as traction control, anti-lock braking and electronic stability control, and it supports steering wheels and shifters.

The mechanical side is handled in a first-person mechanic mode. Each fitted part changes the car’s behaviour through properties such as weight, aerodynamics, centre of mass, compression ratio, displacement and engine inertia. Engine thermodynamics, airflow and electrical load on start-up are simulated, and engine tuning covers air-to-fuel ratio and timing, which vary with compression, boost and fuel octane. Engine swaps are possible, and a wear and tear system means parts degrade with use and give audible warnings such as lifter tick or rod knock before they need repair or replacement. Cosmetic options include a tyre and wheel system with three fitment styles, paint wear effects such as fading, edge rust and patina, and a decal system that extends to interior and window stickers. Over twelve real-world aftermarket brands are represented, and an in-game wiki covers both game content and real-life mechanics.

Around the workshop sits a wider game loop. A used car dealer generates an unlimited number of random vehicles that can be inspected before purchase, and cars can be restored and sold for profit within an economy based on realistic prices. Quarter-mile and eighth-mile drag racing is available with prep and no-prep surfaces, standard or pro tree starts and leaderboards. Other systems include a delivery job mode with payouts based on load, distance and time, a basic police pursuit system tied to wanted level, a damage model and a photo mode. Peer-to-peer multiplayer lets players host or join servers with an in-server race lobby. The developers list further map detail, a broader career including drift, oval and dirt racing, additional cars, engines and customisation, and junkyards and more dealers and shops as planned features.
