BrokenLore: DON’T LIE
BrokenLore: DON’T LIE is a Japanese first-person psychological horror game centred on Junko, a hikikomori who has withdrawn from the outside world. Raised by a father who was physically present but emotionally absent, and having faced rejection and humiliation in her attempts to connect with others, she has shut herself away in her apartment. As memory and reality begin to blur, familiar places change into reflections of her past, and she is forced to confront the people, experiences and emotions she has avoided for years.
Play takes place largely within Junko’s apartment and the distorted spaces around it. Players explore and investigate these confined areas, reading messages and files and examining environmental clues to piece together her story. The game moves between ordinary domestic environments and warped liminal spaces shaped by Junko’s memories and fears. An unseen presence tracks the player’s behaviour, so staying out of sight and moving carefully forms part of the experience, which the developer describes as a slow-burn descent into paranoia and perception.
DON’T LIE is an entry in the BrokenLore series, but it is designed to be played as a standalone story with no prior knowledge required. It is produced by Wired Productions, which contributed additional narrative layers to the game.
