Sue your parents

Sue Your Parents is a courtroom game built around a single premise: a child takes their parents to court for creating them without their agreement. The game presents this argument in a serious legal setting, with the case centred on whether parents owe a debt to the children they chose to have. There is no crime or family secret involved; the alleged offence is simply that the player character exists.

Players can take either side of the dispute. Arguing for the child means holding the parents responsible for the bills, work and hardship that come with being alive. Arguing for the parents means defending the position that creating a life does not create an unlimited obligation to that person. The case develops through a series of courtroom choices covering topics such as responsibility, consent and the cost of living. The opposing side responds to the player’s reasoning and can turn it against them, and the verdict changes depending on the arguments made.

The game is designed to be completed in one sitting, and it can be replayed from the opposite side to defend the position previously attacked. The developer states that the arguments avoid dense legal jargon and are intended to be immediately understandable. The game has now been released on Steam and currently has one user review.
