Cards, Blades & Fine Print
Cards, Blades & Fine Print is a turn-based card RPG in which the player, having sat down to try a new card game, is misfiled by a divine bureaucracy and ends up in Oakford, a woodland town where heroic deeds are stamped and monsters are formally recorded. Combat uses a compact action deck, with enemy intentions clearly telegraphed so the player can respond by combining attacks, parries, techniques and spells. The hero can be developed along Warrior, Mage and Assassin paths, and these can be freely mixed into hybrid builds.
Outside of battle, the game involves exploring regions, working through 26 main cases with multiple parts, taking on jobs, and improving equipment, alchemy, a smithy and the hero’s home. Progress is persistent, so losing a fight does not undo what has been achieved; the player can retreat, prepare and try again. The game contains 583 pieces of equipment and 170 enemies, each with its own artwork, along with 60 collectible sets in a set archive, repeatable hunts, tavern adventures and special assignments. The story eventually moves from the woodland setting to Bracketbreak, a village of broken textures and misplaced quest markers, followed by a concluding chapter that plays with the boundary between the game and the player.
An optional Unicorn Protection setting replaces all spider imagery across case files, hunts, combat and the bestiary with unicorns, without altering any text or gameplay. The game offers three difficulty settings with identical rewards, an autosave plus three manual save slots with local backup, controller support alongside mouse and keyboard, and is fully playable in German and English. Progress from the demo carries over into the full game. There are no accounts, adverts, purchases or telemetry.
