Debt of Life

Debt of Life is a short narrative game about a wealthy man with a home and a family who is facing the final weeks of his life. An expensive treatment keeps him alive from one week to the next, and the player must decide each day how to pay for it.

Gameplay centres on choices made across a series of daily events, conversations and opportunities. The player can sell possessions, give up things that matter to the family, or accept help from people the character does not trust. Some decisions cannot be reversed. These choices affect the character’s relationships, his home and the direction of the story. The game states that there is no perfect choice.

A figure known as The Visitor appears during the game and always has an offer for the player. The character’s fortune and time are both limited, and the central question the game poses is what the player is willing to lose in order to gain one more week of life.
