Fright Train
Fright Train is a third-person action survival horror roguelite in which the player takes the role of a paranormal special agent responding to a distress signal from the L.R.S. Great White, a locomotive research station owned by the SHARK corporation. The train is travelling through Antarctica and its corridors are populated by hostile creatures. Along the way the player meets both allies and enemies, and the story is presented in a B-movie style with semi-realistic stylised graphics.
A central mechanic is maintaining the train itself. Players use terminals to monitor and repair its parts, since a stopped train leaves the character exposed to the cold and to creatures outside in the blizzard. The train layout is procedurally generated, and credits gathered while scavenging are used to unlock new cars and rooms, buy items from vending machines and upgrade weapons. Waves of enemies arrive during storms, and each run ends by reaching an extraction point on top of the locomotive before the train reconfigures. Completing small objectives earns cosmetic rewards.
Inventory management is tied to the character’s body: large and medium items are shown physically on the agent, and the time needed to retrieve them depends on where they are stored, so a magazine kept on the chest is faster to use than one on the lower back. Enemies interact with each other in ways that can help or hinder one another, and some have armour and weak points to be exploited. The environment includes lore, crates that can be kicked, doors to unlock and other interactive objects, and the game features an adaptive soundtrack.
