Fright Train

Fright Train is a third-person action survival horror roguelike set on the L.R.S. Great White, a locomotive research station owned by the SHARK corporation and travelling through Antarctica. The player takes the role of a paranormal special agent responding to a distress signal from the train. Progression involves moving through its corridors, meeting allies and enemies, and monitoring the train’s condition, since a stalled locomotive leaves the player exposed to the cold and to creatures outside in the blizzard.

The train layout is procedurally generated. Players scavenge for resources and spend credits to unlock new cars and rooms, buy items from vending machines and upgrade weapons. Waves of enemies arrive during storms, and the player must reach an extraction point on top of the locomotive before the train reconfigures itself. Optional small objectives award cosmetics. Inventory management is physical: large and medium items are shown on the character’s body, and the speed of retrieving an item depends on where it is stored, so a magazine kept on the chest is faster to load than one on the lower back.

Combat features enemies whose behaviours interact, with some able to support or hinder one another, and certain enemies have armour and weak points. The environment includes lore, terminals for monitoring and repairing train parts, doors to unlock and crates to kick. The game uses semi-realistic stylised graphics, a B-movie style narrative and an adaptive soundtrack. Fright Train has been released on Steam and currently holds a Very Positive user rating from over 100 reviews.
