Grim Trials

Grim Trials is an action roguelite set in an underworld academy for Death’s Reapers. Players control Avelin, a young woman recently recruited as a Reaper, who must hunt impure souls and fight through hex-grid arenas containing monsters, traps, sinful souls, and seven bosses in order to become a full-fledged Reaper and reunite with her still-living love.

Combat centres on dual-wielded scythes and crossbows, with a system built around switching between the two weapon types to maximise damage. Players gather materials from battles to craft and upgrade weapons, armour, and consumables with the help of mentors. An expansive skill tree can be invested in at the start of each run, and Blessings obtained during runs offer further build customisation.

Outside combat, players can explore The Academy, interact with mentors and other denizens, take on quests to build relationships, and learn about the setting’s inhabitants. Progress carries over between deaths, with experience and materials retained across runs as Avelin continues her trials.
