VYCE (DEMO)

VYCE (DEMO) is a tactical RPG built around creatures known as VYCE, each of which parodies a real-world vice. The demo is set in Vanilla Plains, a small town populated by drifters, repeat offenders and other disreputable characters. Players can obtain VYCE by trading with others or by capturing them from opponents during combat.

Battles take place on a grid and are turn-based. Every VYCE moves in the manner of a chess piece, such as a bishop, rook, knight or pawn, but each also carries its own restrictions and special behaviours. Some move in straight lines while capturing diagonally, others alternate between bishop and rook movement, and a number introduce effects such as explosions and clones. Positioning, movement and captures determine the outcome of each fight. The demo includes 75 of the game’s 99 VYCE, covering habits ranging from coffee and gambling to less wholesome subjects.

The single-player demo campaign covers the first act of the game and includes several original mini games that provide a break from standard combat. A multiplayer mode allows matches against friends or CPU opponents with adjustable rulesets. The developer describes the game as one of choices rather than chance.
