Hazard Pay
Hazard Pay is a pixel-art puzzle game set in a decaying dystopian world. The player works alone for an employer known only as IPT, communicating solely through a radio, and is sent to abandoned and contaminated sites to clean up after accidents. Tasks include removing scattered documents, mopping floors and destroying evidence, with the instruction to leave nothing behind, including footsteps. The story is told through the environment rather than direct exposition, and the game raises the question of whether the player will remain obedient to IPT or begin to resist.
Each site is a compact, handcrafted puzzle built on grid-based push and pull mechanics. The player uses the environment to gather documents or push objects into chemical barrels to dispose of them, while avoiding environmental hazards. A wrong move can leave the player trapped or dissolved in acid, so levels require planning ahead and adapting as the situation changes.
The game tracks every move made, and a level’s final step count determines the player’s rank. Completed levels can be replayed to improve results, and scores can be compared against friends or other players through global and friends leaderboards.
