HELLDROP
HELLDROP is a flight shooter presented in a minimalist visual style. The player pilots a spaceship downward through the interior of a planet with the objective of reaching its core and detonating a nuclear bomb. Each planet contains bosses guarding their lairs, and the core boss must be defeated in order to destroy the planet and complete the level.
The game’s progression centres on modules and the ship’s chassis. Four modules can be combined into different skills depending on their shapes, and the resulting skills can be tuned according to how the spaceship is configured. During combat, modules can be snapped together into any arrangement, allowing the ship’s setup to be changed on the fly.
Runs are designed to build on one another. Ores collected during a mission carry over and can be spent to upgrade and modify the next spaceship, so a lost ship still contributes resources towards future attempts. The developer describes this as every sacrifice being valuable, with each new chassis benefiting from what was gathered before.
