Samgood Chronicles DragonFall
Samgood Chronicles DragonFall is a fantasy role-playing game with handcrafted retro pixel art, described by its developer as inspired by dungeon crawlers of the 1980s. It is set in the world of Samgood, where dragons have begun to reappear and the population is reluctant to discuss them for fear of another event known as the Great Scorching. The player is tasked with piecing together what is happening from clues scattered across dungeons, castles, taverns and other locations.
Players create and name a party of four heroes drawn from seven classes: Paladin, Rogue, Mage, Healer, Archer, Siren and Werewolf. Each class has its own set of abilities, such as the Mage’s Fireball, Earthquake and Revive, the Rogue’s poison and stealth strikes, the Siren’s Charm Song and Confusion Song, and the Werewolf’s Moon Howl and Frenzy. Combat is tactical and turn-based, and the developer notes that abilities can be unpredictable and may backfire if used at the wrong moment.
The game features three kingdoms to explore, three dragon boss quests and more than 40 handcrafted locations, along with over 15 ally encounters, 24 random enemy types and 12 different chest and urn traps. Additional systems include a dice gambling game called Eleven-for-Heaven, level-scaled shops, a usable world map and three save slots. A playthrough is estimated at roughly three to six hours, with some replay value. The game was made by a single developer.
