HMUR
HMUR is a retro-style first-person shooter set in an alternate version of the 1990s USSR, in the fictional city of Mirnogorsk. The player controls Sergei, a utility worker caught up in the aftermath of a disaster that has thrown the city’s advanced facilities into chaos. The game draws on influences such as Hotline Miami’s fast, punishing combat, Atomic Heart’s Soviet high-tech setting, and Dusk’s gunplay style.
Gameplay centres on high-speed movement and precise combat, with a single hit often proving fatal to either the player or an enemy. Death leads to restarting with the knowledge gained from previous attempts, encouraging players to refine their approach through repeated tries. Ammunition is treated as a limited resource, and the game features a range of firearms, including some notably powerful weapons.
Levels are structured non-linearly, with branching paths that allow players to choose alternative routes if they struggle with a particular section. The game also incorporates environmental storytelling, with clues, audio recordings, and other details scattered throughout levels revealing more about the facility and the events leading to its destruction. The game features an original soundtrack blending techno, hard bass, and breakcore music styles.
