Holstin
Holstin is a survival horror game set in late November 1992 in Jeziorne-Kolonia, a small, isolated town in eastern Poland that has been overtaken by an unexplained calamity. The player follows the trail of a missing friend, Bartek, exploring the town to uncover what happened to him and why he never left. The environment is depicted as decaying, with streets covered in slime and buildings, people, and wildlife shown deteriorating from within.
Core gameplay involves scavenging for limited supplies and weapons to fight off monstrous creatures that inhabit the town. The player character is not portrayed as a hero, and survival depends on managing scarce resources. Interaction with surviving locals forms another part of the game, as many of them are losing their sanity and require the player to engage with their delusions to obtain information or solve puzzles.
The game uses custom in-house technology to present hand-drawn pixel art environments with dynamic lighting and camera rotation, allowing exploration from eight different viewing angles. This combination is used to give a modern presentation to a traditional pixel art style.
