How to Fish is a physics-based fishing simulator that supports between one and four players. The game begins after the player crashes their boat into a small island while drinking and boating, and the aim is to find a way back home by learning to fish.

The core loop involves catching fish, killing them and selling them for money. Players start with no gear or weapons and use their earnings to buy better equipment. Progress to new islands comes from completing quests and defeating bosses, and each new island introduces more dangerous creatures along with improved gear.

Other features include rare variants of each fish type for players to collect, trick shots that earn extra money, and a gambling option for increasing earnings further. One new DLC item has recently been added to the game on Steam.
