Hunt for the Lost Folktales
Single-player Family Sharing
A turn-based tactical creature collector in which a cursed hunter tracks escaped folktale beasts, battles them on a grid by stacking Fear, and returns their tales to the Library of Lost Tales.

Hunt for the Lost Folktales is a folklore hunting, turn-based battling and creature collecting adventure. The player is a hunter cursed to become the beast they once pursued, and the Afterlife Scribe offers a way to reverse the curse: track down folktale beasts that have escaped from their storybooks and return their tales to the Library of Lost Tales. Returned books earn rewards of Bones and Claws.

Exploration centres on wolf senses. Players follow pawprint and scent trails, use Hunt Contracts to investigate sightings, and rely on a detection beacon that pings hidden trails and dig sites nearby. Decoy trails are present, so trail details must be checked. Patrolling folktales can be avoided through stealth or ambushed to start a fight, and a roaming rival Hunter also moves through the lands. Combat takes place on a grid-based battlefield, where stacking Fear on an enemy lets the player deal damage equal to that Fear. Positioning, environmental hazards and synergies between party members all factor into each turn. Defeated folktales return to storybook form so their tales can be captured, and the party of folktales can be upgraded to improve survivability and unlock new combat skills.

The game is set in the Wild Woodlands, which has 3 regions, each with its own environmental hazards and weather events, and 3 Storybook Rifts to seal. Listed content includes 16 Hunt Contracts, 25 level locations, more than 100 battles alongside 13 Elder Hunt Challenges, over 150 folktale books to collect, 13 Writer’s Block Puzzles that grant Ink Stamp combat passives, 4 party recruits, a shop selling trinkets, and 3 difficulty modes. A progress book menu tracks collections, including hidden lore scrolls. The creatures are hand-drawn interpretations based on researched descriptions of folklore beasts. The developer cites The Witcher and Into the Breach as inspirations.
