In Falsus

In Falsus is a rhythm game combined with a visual novel style story, developed around a theme of lies and truth. It follows five girls attending high school in a near-future world, each with their own perspective, whose lives change when they are called to join an unusual government programme and begin to confront a hidden side of their reality. Players switch between the viewpoints of the five protagonists, whose stories are interconnected, and the game features full Japanese voice acting. The setting is described as a world in which emotions are laid bare at the neck and no lies are permitted.

The music gameplay uses a mouse and keyboard control scheme and offers four difficulty levels, which increase both the intensity of incoming notes and the movement of the aerial Field. Key story moments, in which the protagonists must either confront or help other characters, are each linked to a specific song. The soundtrack contains more than 70 tracks, over 40 of which are original, produced by composers from Japan’s independent music scene alongside international artists and spanning a range of genres.

Alongside the rhythm sections, the game includes a crafting system. Clearing songs earns materials that are slotted into Blueprints, grid-based layouts offering various stat boosts and bonuses; the arrangement of materials within a Blueprint determines the resulting Card. Up to five Cards can be equipped at once to change how a song is approached. Cards carry artwork depicting characters and narrative scenes from the story, illustrated by a variety of artists. In Falsus has now been released, and at the time of writing holds a Very Positive user review rating on Steam from more than 500 reviews.
