IN
IN casts the player as a Recover Unit, a maintenance sphere dispatched to an abandoned orbital station following a catastrophic power failure. Gravity has collapsed and life support is failing. Fifteen emergency generator units lie dormant across the station, and the objective is to bring twelve of them back online before the facility shuts down permanently.
The game is built around exploring a large, interconnected set of industrial sectors, including a Command Center, Cryogenic Storage, a Botanical Laboratory, Biological Containment, a Manufacturing Complex, Maintenance Tunnels and a Docking Array. Players collect CFL canisters to restore emergency power systems, traverse industrial machinery, maintenance shafts and abandoned laboratories, and piece together the story through environmental details and classified documents found in each area.
As the player descends further into the station, the mission begins to contradict itself. Maintenance logs refer to personnel who never existed, recovered fuel behaves like living tissue, and the generators appear to consume more than energy. The narrative is presented as cosmic horror that relies on implication rather than direct explanation, and it includes surreal, dreamlike sequences alongside the station’s physical spaces. The developer describes multiple layers of meaning concealed beneath the routine maintenance tasks.
