Kovoclak

Kovoclak is a 2D platformer inspired by 1980s and 1990s classics, with entirely hand-drawn visuals. It is set in a polluted world where people live hypnotised in robotic routines. The player controls a businessman who has been changed by a mysterious solar storm and chooses to explore his city. He can look for a conventional job and earn coins, or free the citizens from their digital trance and bring colour back into their grey lives.

There are no weapons in the game. The player’s tools are a watering can, an umbrella and a boombox. The boombox is used to record and adjust sounds, which can then be broadcast to interact with the world. Each frequency produces a different glowing orb. Some orbs wake the citizens, while others change the environment, so the player has to find the right frequency for each situation.

The game combines action and exploration with optional interactive dialogues. Its tone is offbeat and satirical, and it presents a humorous take on a hyperconnected society focused on productivity. The player is encouraged to use creativity to free the city by making noise.
