Late Shift
Late Shift is a psychological horror game presented through found footage style visuals, following a character named Mark as he becomes trapped in a time loop while working the late shift at a local cinema. Each loop alters the environment, requiring the player to notice anomalies and changes in order to progress and eventually break free from the cycle.
The game uses procedural generation so that no two loops are identical, and a feedback system informs players of any anomalies they missed during a run. A dynamic camera system, which can be toggled on or off, is combined with realistic lighting and sound design to create an immersive, uncanny atmosphere inspired by liminal spaces.
Progress is tracked across playthroughs, allowing players to work towards discovering all the unique anomalies present in the game. A single shift ends once all rooms have been cleared of anomalies. The overall experience is designed to last roughly 30 to 120 minutes or more, drawing inspiration from other psychological horror walking simulators such as The Exit 8 and CAPTURED.
