Motivation Monsters

Motivation Monsters is a desktop companion game about building habits and working towards personal goals. Alien creatures called Xenopals sit along the bottom of the player’s desktop while they work, placed so that they remain visible without getting in the way of other windows. The premise is that the Xenopals learn to look after themselves by following the example the player sets in real life.

Each day the Xenopals suggest a mix of tasks, including self-care, so that the player’s activities stay varied rather than centred only on work. Long-term goals are broken down into smaller steps that can be completed in the present. Completing real-world tasks earns XP, reveals new creatures and unlocks transformations. Over time the Xenopals change physically through a process the game calls Self-Actualization. The game does not penalise the player for missed or unproductive days, and streaks are not lost.

The game includes more than 60 music tracks described as DMCA safe. It also provides a task tracker and to-do list, along with a Pomodoro timer.
