MOUSE: P.I. For Hire

MOUSE: P.I. For Hire is a first-person shooter with a hand-drawn, black and white rubber hose animation style inspired by cartoons of the 1930s. The single-player campaign follows Jack Pepper, a former war hero turned private investigator, as a missing persons case develops into a wider story involving corruption, kidnapping and murder in the city of Mouseburg. The game features an original big band jazz soundtrack and over 20 levels set across varied locations including streets, film studios, an opera house, a swamp and sewers.

Combat is fast-paced and movement-focused, drawing on boomer shooter design. Players have access to more than ten weapons and pieces of equipment with cartoon-themed variations, along with consumable power-ups that affect combat encounters. Enemies include armed gangs, corrupt police and various anthropomorphic rodent characters, with boss battles included throughout the campaign.

Movement abilities such as wall-running, grapple-hooking and double-jumping are unlocked over the course of the game, supporting Metroidvania-style traversal and backtracking. Mouseburg also contains investigative content, including cases to solve and collectibles to find, alongside the main shooting gameplay.
